Travel insurance
Travel and medical insurance is compulsory on every program. Here is what your policy should cover.
Every volunteer needs travel and medical insurance for the whole of their stay in India. It protects you if you fall ill, have an accident or need to come home early, and we ask to see your policy details before you travel.
What your policy should cover
- Medical treatment and hospital stays in India.
- Emergency evacuation and repatriation.
- Your full stay, from the day you leave home to the day you get back, including any weekend trips.
- Volunteering, so check the policy does not exclude unpaid work abroad.
Worth having too
- Cover for cancellation and cutting your trip short.
- Cover for lost or stolen luggage, money and documents.
- Personal liability.
How to arrange it
- Buy a policy in your home country before you travel. Compare a few providers and read what is excluded.
- If you already have travel insurance, for example through your bank or university, check that it covers India, volunteering and the full length of your stay.
- Send us your insurer’s name, policy number and emergency phone number with your application documents.
- Carry a copy of your policy and the emergency number with you in India.
