Living in Delhi
Our volunteers live together in South Delhi, a few minutes’ walk from the Metro. You share a room, breakfast and dinner are served Monday to Saturday, and the people at the next table are usually volunteers from other projects with tips to swap.
Getting to work is part of the adventure: most volunteers ride the Metro and finish the trip by auto-rickshaw, and your coordinator does the first journey with you. After work and at weekends, try the street food and handicraft stalls at Dilli Haat, the colonnades of Connaught Place, or the spice lanes of Old Delhi. Our team lives nearby and is happy to suggest where to go.
Delhi is at its best from October to March, when days are dry and mild and Diwali falls in October or November. From April to June it is very hot, often over 40°C, and July to September is monsoon season. Projects run all year.

Questions about Delhi
Where do I fly into?
Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in New Delhi. We meet you on your start date between 8am and 8pm. If you land at another time, we can arrange a pickup for an extra charge.
Where will I eat?
Breakfast and dinner are vegetarian Indian meals at the hostel, Monday to Saturday. Lunch on project days and meals on Sundays are up to you, and street food and cafes nearby cost very little.
How do I get around?
The Delhi Metro is cheap, clean and air-conditioned, and auto-rickshaws cover the rest. Local transport is not included in the price.
Is Delhi safe for volunteers?
Take the same care you would in any big city. Orientation covers what to wear, how to get around and what to avoid, and our team lives close by and can be reached at any hour.
